Welcome to St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School Smithton

St Peter Chanel Catholic School is a Christ-centred community where teachers, parents and students collaborate to provide an environment where the worth and dignity of each person is acknowledged and appreciated. Our vision at St Peter Chanel Catholic School is to create learning environments that prepare students to be successful citizens in the 21st Century.

Located in Smithton on the far north west coast of Tasmania, St Peter Chanel Catholic School provides classes from Kindergarten to Grade 6. We also value and support early learning through our Birth to Five Learning Treasures Program.

We are a welcoming and inclusive school community where we believe all students have the right to grow to their full potential in a supportive, safe and engaging environment. Our community has high expectations, challenging each individual to flourish to reach their God-given potential.

The Gospel values of love, compassion, service and justice underpin all that we do at St Peter Chanel. We are proud of the rich and significant heritage of the sisters of St Joseph with their charism: God’s compassionate love; ordinary; practical; hospitable; humas (down to earth and of the earth). We are committed to ensuring that the valued traditions of the Sisters of St Joseph are promoted and preserved for future generations. Our motto, ‘We Seek the Lord’, is based on the badge of St Attracta. It encapsulates the charism of the Sisters of St Joseph and provides a visual link with the past.

We value and support partnerships with parents/guardians in the daily education of their children. We hold strong beliefs that this should be founded on a spirit of mutual respect, cooperation, communication and involvement. It is an enormous privilege to work with families in our Catholic context.

Please feel free to explore our website and contact the school for further information or to arrange a tour so you can experience our warm and engaging environment first hand.
